Я взял только две книги, а остальные отдал друзьям. (4.) Прилагательное other с последующим существительным в единственном числе обычно сопровождается неопределенными местоимениями some, any, no и соответствует русским "другой", "иной", "не этот": some other day в какой-нибудь другой день (не сегодня). (5.) Русскому другой в значении "не такой", например, "он другой человек/он стал другим" соответствует английское прилагательное different: she is quite a different person она совсем другой человек; he came back a different man он вернулся другим человеком; he has different plans у него совсем другие планы. (6.) Словосочетания the other day, the other year соответствуют русским "на днях", "несколько лет тому назад", если событие относится к прошлому.
